Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA)

Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) is the globally recognised carbon management and certification programme for airports, designed to support the aviation sector in reducing CO₂ emissions and advancing climate action.

The programme provides a structured framework that enables airports to measure, manage, reduce and ultimately neutralise their carbon emissions, while progressively engaging airlines, ground handlers, and other partners operating on the airport platform. ACA recognises airport achievements through seven progressive accreditation levels, culminating in Level 5, which validates Net Zero carbon emissions for Scopes 1 and 2 and active management of Scope 3 emissions.

The programme is developed and administered by ACI Europe and is open to airports worldwide.

Sustainable Aviation Academy (SAA)

The Sustainable Aviation Academy (SAA) is an ACI Africa–led capacity-building initiative developed to support African airports in strengthening environmental management and sustainability performance. Launched by ACI Africa in partnership with ENV-ISA, SAA provides a flexible online learning platform tailored to the operational realities of African airports.

The Academy equips airport executives and environmental specialists with practical knowledge and tools to manage carbon emissions, environmental risks, and sustainability priorities, while supporting readiness for internationally recognised frameworks such as Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA).

Courses are delivered online over a four-week period and combine structured modules, assessments, and live instructor-led webinars. Current topics include environmental management systems, carbon emission reduction, energy efficiency, waste and water management, and community engagement.

Through SAA, ACI Africa reinforces its commitment to practical, regionally relevant sustainability solutions for African airports.
